Standard I: Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
- Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness
- Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
- Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
- Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
ReflectionThis standard underlines the importance of truly integrating technology with content in teaching and learning. It is not only important that students learn, but also that they see others learning and realize that learning never ends. Teachers must be able to show students how to learn and demonstrate that learning is an adventure that involves everyone, not a Sisyphean task. The course site I created for this class meets this standard because it is an interactive educational environment that promotes collaboration, innovative thinking, and exploration of different online resources. The Google Doc and Slide support this standard as they were created with the people in my group and therefore both model collaborative knowledge construction. The blog and comments with it are evidence of collaborative student reflection. Not only does a blog teach students how to use display knowledge in creative and in-depth ways, it also promotes complex student interaction and collaborative learning. The online forum I created with Nabble promotes student reflection through the use of an online discussion board. Students are able to reflect on course materials and discuss with other students.

Future Learning Goal
Standard I emphasizes the importance of the teacher as a facilitator of active learning. As such, it is my goal to continue seeking out new technologies that promote student learning. Teachers must demonstrate lifelong learning through continuing to explore educational innovations and resources. I believe the key here is learning together, so it is my goal to remember the different collaborative opportunities now available through the internet. Planning, teaching, and learning are more effective as a community.
