Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.
- Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
- Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success
- Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats
- Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning
Reflection
Standard III is about teachers staying up-to-date with different technologies and communicating them effectively with others. If students are expected to be citizens of the modern age of technology (which they are), it is the responsibility of teachers to demonstrate the myriad of resources available. Teaching and learning are continually evolving--teachers need to be able to plug students in to current knowledge. Many of the projects created in this course support this standard, mainly my course site exhibits the different ways teachers can communicate current knowledge to students through materials, assignments and resources. Creating a podcast communicates content through the use of new(ish) technology. Podcasts require working with several editing resources, including sound editing, overlaying, and recording. The movie story required learning to create and post a YouTube video, which is a free and easy way to communicate information. Both the Podcast and movie story demonstrate fluency in technology systems. ThingLink is a way to link multiple resources to one image and is a great way to localize resources to support research and learning. Scoop.it also allows teachers to gather resources for research and learning and publish them in a weekly e-magazine (or just website). The teacher can post current information for students to access, which is the perfect way to model and facilitate the integration of technology into education.
ArtifactsFuture Learning GoalThe future goal to accomplish this standard would be to learn how to make time to gather and curate resources for students. The internet has a million resources, but the issue is in creating the time to research and learn. The artifacts that support this standard each took planning, research, and strategy--things that take time. To effectively model digital age work and learning, a teacher will need to first be disciplined with the schedule, setting aside time for research and preparation.
