Standard IV: Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.

Reflection
Standard IV involves teachers modeling and communicating proper behavior in the context of the use of technology. In order for students to properly use technology, they must know the do's and don'ts. This is something that is accomplished "on the side." Digital etiquette can be modeled by the teacher, integrated into an early assignment, or included in the course guidelines. Artifacts that exhibit this standard are my course blog, discussion forum, and assignment rubrics. The blog and discussion forum promote responsible social interaction through the use of communication tools. The assignment rubrics outline what to include in digital assignments, including student engagement and responsible use of resources.
Future Learning Goal
In reflecting on this standard, I have realized it may be beneficial to require some sort of digital responsibilities activity in the future. At the beginning of future online teaching and learning endeavors. Grasping digital citizenship and responsibility has become more difficult with the advancement of technology. People get swept up by the concept of open information. Clear guidelines need to be continually communicated--in each assignment, each posting, everywhere. As a teacher, I could model that and explain the importance of intellectual property, along with setting clear consequences.
